Glass and aluminum can take up to 4000 years to decompose in a landfill. When recycled you are saving space in our already over crowded landfills. The chemicals used to produce glass and aluminum will not leach into the ground water. The materials to make these products can be reused.
You can save up scrap metal this includes soup and soda cans and make money. The average family can earn enough money to take a family vacation once a year. These are dollars you are just throwing in the trash.
Find useful creative ways to use your trash. Cardboard tubes from paper towels and toilet paper become useful storage containers. Put your extension cords inside them and no more tangled mess. Christmas lights stored in a tube come out easily and untangled.
Baby food jars can become snow globes. Want a groovy lava lamp? Use a glass or plastic bottle fill it with clear oil and food coloring and watch the lava. I remove the labels and reuse all my glass and plastic jars for food storage in the fridge. It keeps all my leftovers fresh and I can see what I have.
Once you start recycling it will get your creative juices going. I am not telling you to keep a bunch of trash around you will never use. You will create new good habits to use what you used to consider trash. You will find that your trash can fills up much slower.
One of the biggest obstacles to recycling is finding a place to put your recycled waste until it can be recycled. Invest in a good recycling bin. It is worth its weight in gold. It will make the task much easier. You will wonder why you didn't start sooner.
Recycling kitchen waste to a compost bin will reap rewards with the best garden or landscape on the block. Your soil will make it so easy. You will have less weeds. Your plants will love your compost and grow like weeds. You will no longer have to fertilize them the soil will give them everything they need.
When you have perfected the art of recycling you should share your tips with your friends and neighbors. Mine are always taken back by my yard. They ask me what my secret is? I share with them how I achieve my results. They love me for it.
The top three benefits of recycling are cleaner water, conservation of limited resources and getting your creative juices going.
